Road trips in India could be the most beautiful, but what we need to know about the statics of road travel is, that a very small number plans an outstation road trip. Among the Bikers, it is the most popular; we all have seen those bikers on their ‘Bullets’, while we are traveling in our taxi cabs or cars going by, fantasizing what would it be like traveling the way they do? Now it is not necessary that you have to take your bike, if you want to go on a road trip, you can simply take your own car or a taxi and get going!!
The things you need to know about a “Hard Core”, road trip is that there is no particular destination to stay, rather there are two anecdotes, the first is where you ‘start’ and the second is where you ‘reach’, so it could be by your car or a bike and it could be to a particular place or throughout India if you are ambitious.
Road trips are generally the most popular in the highlands, in India it’s generally, Ladakh, Manali, Shimla or any of hill stations. For the young, it is very popular to go off the rail, they very often take the roads less taken, they go rogue; to experience the wild. You can stop by at individual streams, where you can enjoy the calm of the nature and some privacy, camp up and spent quality time. These types of trips are generally bike driven.
The other type of road trip is a Family Road Trip, where, you take a taxi or a campervan, it is generally more than a single backpack, where you take along all the essentials important for a family, it is more luxury driven whereas the, biker road trips are predominantly, adventure driven. You tend to stop by each town and focus on their specialties, may it be their historical monuments or their exquisite cuisine or simply a pilgrimage, which we generally do not travel or miss if we plan a destination stay.
Here, you will be able to cover multiple towns, several cities; and travel throughout your planed 4 to 6 day trip. You stay at a different but a booked hotel every night. The advantage is that you don’t have to rush to a destination in order to start enjoying. The disadvantage is that it could be tiresome, if the things do not go as planned and some delays occur, so to be sure, if it’s a Family Road Trip, you have to be particular about the planned schedule.
Taking a taxi is the best possible cost effective solution, so that you can concentrate on enjoying the trip, though a bus could be great but a car will have less travel limitations, you generally get slowed down by bus but car gives you speed and comfort both for any outstation travel around India.
Think, Plan and Get Set Go!!! A road trip comes with a lot of fresh air, fresh fruits, fresh juice and great cuisine. What you need to do is, keep the theme in mind and start planning.
